I just wanted to take this opportunity to say hello and introduce myself to all the loyal Underwater Playground customers.  I am Scot Young.  I have been a customer of Knight Diver since 1994 until they sold the business to Terry and Diane.  I have known Terry and Diane since they were Rescue Diver students, and have been a loyal customer of theirs since they opened Underwater Playground.  When I found out that Terry and Diane had decided to sell Underwater Playground, I contacted them to see if we could come together in an agreement that is designed with the loyal customers and divers of the Eastern Baltimore County and Harford County community.

What both of us wanted was for the diving history and community of Harford and Baltimore County to continue in the future.  We are looking to open the new dive shop within the next 3-4 months.  We are looking to keep any disruption in service to an absolute minimum.  In the next few weeks we will be updating all of Underwater Playground’s loyal customers with contact information for continued sales and service.  I do not intend the closing of the current physical location from keeping you from being able to buy any equipment you may need or preventing you from getting all your equipment serviced in a timely and convenient manner.  It is my desire to see all of you when we open the new shop.  I do not want you to think that the Underwater Playground days are over.  It is my intention for you to see many of the same staff and great equipment you have become used to from the current Underwater Playground.  While we will be moving to a new location and there will be a new name change, I hope you will look at this as just a facelift for what you have grown to count on from Underwater Playground.  As an avid customer of Underwater Playground, I also want to keep the same group of family and friends together in the new dive shop.  You will see a few new faces and some new services, but overall, when the new doors open, you will see some fo the same friendly faces you have come to expect from Underwater Playground.

Now that I hope I have put many of you at ease, I want to give you a brief introduction to myself and to my vision for the new dive shop I hope all of you are going to help create.  While we are still working on a new name and logo, we hope to be able to unveil that to all of you in the next few weeks.  I am a PADI Master SCUBA Diver Trainer.  It is my intention to keep an affiliation with SSI for those divers who like the SSI program and wish to continue within the SSI organization.  I am also planning to bring the PADI system of diving in to the shop as well.  This is going to offer all of you more choice in the way you learn, but also offer additional options for learning other dive specialties.  I have been a certified diver for nearly 20 years.  I have learned from both agencies, and I think there are huge benefits to offering the programs of both organizations.  I look forward to hearing your thoughts and concerns.  I will have my nephew working with me on this change and in opening the new shop.  While my nephew is a little on the youthful side, he has been diving for over 3 years.  He is currently completing his PADI Rescue Diver and will be working on his Divemaster and Instructor over the next couple of months.

We have dived on 5 of 7 of the world’s continents and in 4 of the world’s oceans.  It is from all this diving together and traveling we are hoping to be able to offer the great advice and trips that in the past have not been available.  We have made friends with Dive Operators all over the world during our travels and we are constantly in touch with these friends and hope to pass some of the expeditions we have taken on to you.  These trips do not have to take you all over the world.  We spent this summer diving completely down the east coast of the US, into the Keys and then up to the Oriskany wreck in the Gulf of Mexico.  We are planning to make these regular events.  We are also going to be sponsoring more day trips to local dive sites in the area of the Baltimore/ Bel Air area.

Aside from the plans to boost travel diving opportunities, we are planning to significantly increasing our internet presence.  If you aren’t able to get into the shop, we will be able to take your orders over the internet with the same expert advice and experience you have come to know from your trips to the shops.  We are also planning to bring back the social aspect of diving.  We are going to be planning social nights at the shop and local diving to get everyone who is a customer and friend of ours introduced to each other.

Diving is a great sport.  I love teaching the sport and offering advice to new divers whenever I can.  Like I have said earlier, I have been certified for nearly 20 years, but I have been diving since I was a little kid.  I grew up with an uncle who was an instructor and had us in his pool and out diving all the time.  It was this influence that eventually led me to become a certified diver and eventually an instructor.  Over the last 20 years, I have been lucky enough to see the wonder and beauty that is the underwater world.  It is my hope that by purchasing Underwater Playground I will be able to pass on that wonder not only to you our current customers, but to a new generation of divers.  Currently I am in Saudi Arabia and I teach classes regularly and dive the Red Sea on an almost weekly basis.  It is something that I hope we will be able to offer to you.  Diving is a great sport.  It is one I have been lucky enough to have participated in for most of my life and one of the reasons I have made the decision to buy Underwater Playground.  I hope to keep diving alive in Harford County and the northern/ eastern Baltimore County area.  I look forward to hearing from you in the future about the progress of the new shop.  I will be keeping all of you informed as we move forward.  I know it is you, the current customers of Underwater Playground, who are going to be the best basis for the continued success of SCUBA diving in the future.

I look forward to hearing from all of you.  If you have any suggestions for how to make the new shop a bigger success, please feel free to share your ideas.  In closing, I would like to express my gratitude to all of you who have helped with the transition.  I know you have donated your time and services to help move all the current equipment and inventory out of the current building and into storage.  Terry has passed on to me you willingness to help with the opening and outfitting of the new store, and I look forward to working with all of you.  I am grateful of all the assistance and offers you have made to make this sale possible.  I think this truly shows the reason I think that continuing the diving community of the area alive and keep the same family and friends you know in the dive industry and in the new shop.  Again I would like to say thank you.

Miguel and I look forward to seeing you when the new shop opens and for many years to come.  For some of you who know us and some of the trips we do, we are looking forward to having you along for our dive adventures.  If any of you come across Miguel, ask him about the trips and what advice he may have for you.  I am sure for someone his age, he will not be short on stories or advice.  And as he grows into the new business, he may actually come to know what he is talking about.

Thank you and we look forward to meeting and working with all of you in the future.
